Hey Everyone,
I purchase a Biostar TF560-A2+ Motherboard back a few years ago. Its been a excelent board. I purchased a AMD64 6000+ CPU for this system. Now I have been considering going Quad core and getting a AMD Phen2 940 but I am unsure if it is compatible. I see on Biostars website that it is only tested up to the AMD 9850. But then again they do not list the CPU I am running in my system either and it has close to the same specs voltage and wattage wise. Other then just flashing the BIOS to the A2+ BIOS does anyone else think that the CPU will or will not work? Or should if I go Quad core just get the 9850 2.5GHz that is listed?

Thanks,
Exo

I (my brother) too have this motherboard. I haven't tested any new chips in it, but I have done a bit of research. Through google searches, I have seen people claim Phenom II processors (like the 940) will work in the board.

I also came across a site with "beta" BIOSs: http://www.lejabeach.com/Biostar/TF560A2+/

Some posts I found:

i believe it should boot with a Phenom II 940 Black edition IF you get the 125W version. I dont think 140W CPUs will work in this board

That is what I was thinking as well. My current CPU the 6000+ dual core is almost exactly the same with the exception to the 940 have 2 additional cores. I voltage on the 940 is withing range of other CPUs listed have been tested and worked. Wattage is within the same test and so is the FSB. I for the life of me can not conceive any reason it shouldnt. But I hate to make a 160buck gamble when the 9850 (2.5ghx x4) is only 99bucks and tested..

Thanks for the input everyone.

I will prob take the safe route and get the 9850 since I still got to purchase 2x 24" LCDs for my PC also.

You could gamble and try the Athlon II X4 620... :p

It uses less power, but who knows if the BIOS code will recognize and booth with it.
