I was on the same boat yesterday. I ended up just observing a game.. Looks fun, but I'm a newb at the game. So there's no way to just start a new game and the server will match people into your room? Kinda like age of empires 2 and 3.

Yeah, had a friend boot up a server so we can play it privately.

Of course, when it wasn't passworded, it flooded before more than 2 of us could join.
