So I'm getting a friend to try TF2 with my free pass. Up until this week she's never really played a shooter. She just started playing BF:H and like it. But I wanted her to try TF2 (think it's better) I tried to make a server but it only works LAN without some modifications. I Googled and figured out what I need to do. I don't have enough horsepower or the need for a dedicate server. But I'd like to spend a few hours with her 1v1 explaining how shit works. And letting her explore and get a feel for the controls and interface. She tends to get frustrated easy so throwing her to the wolfs isn't a good idea lol. Google isn't turning up much info about the kind of system needed, but here is my system

C2D e6500
2 gigs memory
8600gt
Windows 7 64.
Charter Pipeline 6/512

should this setup be alright for some 1v1 action? I thought a little FPS tutorial with a quick run thru of all the classes before I send her off to play on a busy server would be less hectic and maybe help her get the basics down before jumping into a large game and trying to figure out shit while dealing with 10+ other players. She's a gamer, and a pretty quick learner but FPS's are a big change from her usual LOTR:eek:.

Should be fine for 1v1. Test it out with some people here first since you don't want to burn her day pass. I'll be available for futzing around tomorrow afternoon if you want me to jump on and test.

What router? Any QOS capabilities?

dont bother making your own server. there are a thousand empty servers out there. you should be able to find one where the two of you can practice by yourselves. just make sure your filters are set with the "has users playing" option unchecked.

just make sure you are one of her steam friends and joining the same server is cake.
