tf2 performance on my laptop

I only get 14fps on a native resolution with the lowest video settings. My system specs are: windows 7 32 bit, core 2 duo 2.0 ghz, ati x1600 video, 2gb RAM.
PC requirements for tf2:
Recommended: Pentium 4 processor (3.0GHz, or better), 1GB RAM, DirectX® 9 level Graphics Card, Windows® Vista/XP/2000, Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection.
Why can't my laptop handle this game?

You don't say what rez it's at and what graphics settings you have it on. That graphics on your laptop are really weak but it's not a demanding game on low settings.

i use the lowest possible settings(shadows,lighting, reflections,etc). rez is 1280 x 800

how do i switch it to dx8? It does not allow me to change the setting in the game video options.

Yeah I had some pretty poor performance on my laptop, which is surprising. The game is not by any means graphically challenging, so I can only assume it isn't very well optimized. I play better looking games on higher settings without difficulty.
