Earlier this year I dropped verizon and went to page plus cellular and got the 2000 minute ($80) for a year deal.

As far as I know, that only includes voice minutes. I have received 2 texts in the last week though. How is that possible?

1 was a scam text for a best buy "contest" and one was from a friend.

Can I just not send texts or what? Do those texts take away from my overal $80 of minutes?

I don't text but i dont want to be charged for texts that people send me out of the blue.

probably. $0.10-20/text if I had to guess.
Funny little gotcha, not sure why FCC hasn't stepped in to limit this. You might be able to call PagePlus and have them completely remove texting from your account.

Texts on the standard plan (which is what you have) are $.05 each. You can go on their website if you have a login and disable texts entirely.

If pageplus is like other cell carriers, then they'll probably charge you per text and not use your minutes.

Texts take $0.05/ea off of your balance.

To disable you would probably have to call.
You have to call to disable that balance reminder whenever you call somewhere. So I figure disabling texting would be the same. There is also a live chat on the website that may be able to do it.
