hi all,

I finally broke down and bought a 2nd monitor for a dual monitor setup. I didn't look for anything expensive since this 2nd monitor is just going to be used for work purposes (web development). but the text on this 2nd monitor is harder to read then on my main - in some cases much harder. The worst looking text so far was when I was remote desktoped into my server and had the properties open for a website and the text on the tabs was virtually impossible to read.

I've tried running the clear type tuner which didn't seem to help much.

My main monitor is a samung 930B. Replacement monitor i picked up was a 19 inch hyundai - i think the model was K93S.

Anything i can do to test the monitor to find out if it's just a bad monitor? Any recommendations for a 2nd 19inch nonwide screen monitor? If i have to return this one I was thinking about getting this one from newegg:

thanks

The Hyundai doesn't have DVI output, whereas your Samsung does (you are using the DVI out instead of VGA out, right?).

Anyways, at least in my case, the issue is more obvious if I have DVI and VGA monitors side by side (like I do at this moment). Two identical Viewsonics, except one is VGA instead of DVI (my laptop dock has one VGA, one DVI port).

I have a Dell 2408WFP and it has both connectors and the DVI connection is definitely sharper than VGA.

Have you tried auto-adjust a couple of times? For vga, u definitely need auto-adjust. By the way, why are you settling for 19" monitors when deals for 22" are in the same price range? Vertical resolution matches up fairly well too (1024 vs 1050).

Maybe i am not getting the model number right but the hyundai definitely has DVI because my vid card only has 2 digital connections - no analog. The hyundai actually has dvi and analog. I specifically checked that before i left the store.

Cant recall if i tried the auto adjust or not. I'll try that when i get home.

As for why am settling for 19. I asked a few people who have dual monitor setups and the unanimous opinion was to get a monitor as close to the same size/resolution as i already have. And they do the same line of work I do so i'm going with their suggestion of using two similar monitors.

My main monitor is a 19 inch 1280x1024 so that's what i am looking for for my 2nd monitor. Plus I would prefer a non-wide screen monitor and I haven't seen any 22 inch monitors that aren't wide screen. It's already hard enough finding a 19 inch that's not wide screen. Plus with my desk space, having a wider monitor would make things a little cramped.

thanks

Oh, just thought of something - i noticed the dvi cable that came with the monitor is much thinner then the one that i am using with the samsung. any chance that has anything to do with it? I'm doubt it since it's digital and I'm not seeing anything on the screen that looks like it's a distorted signal. To me it looks like lousy resolution or something. I'll try swapping the cables anyhow to see if it makes a difference. And I'll try to snap a pic with my digital camera when i get home so you can see what it looks like if the cable swapping doesn't resolve it.
