text messaging over network

when i was in high school a couple years ago we used to have fun in the boring computer classes (our teacher was monotone city) by sending simple messages over the network using a program built into Windows. The problem is I can't remember what it was or where it is. It sent messages in such a way that you could fool people by sending fatal error messages. If anyone knows what it is let me know. Much appreciated.

its called net send
start a dos box and type net view
to send a message type net send then the computer name
