1. Why was pricedb.com created?

Pricedb.com was created so that consumers like ourselves could help each other to always get the best prices on the items they shop for. This is accomplished by providing consumers with the tools to check the lowest prices on individual items no matter where that person is. No longer does price comparing mean spending time and energy driving between stores, searching the internet for the best prices (which is usually limited to online retailers), or making countless phone calls to the retailers. How many of us have actually been in a store and seen an item and thought "I just saw this at retailer X, but how much was it over there?" Well with pricedb.com you can find out where the cheapest price is without having to go anywhere. Just use your email enabled mobile device to query pricedb.com for the lowest prices on the item in question.

2. How does pricedb.com work?

Pricedb.com is more than a web site or a web service, its a community built by consumers for consumers. Our service is only as good as its users. The more people use pricedb.com the more useful it becomes to everyone. It works because for the consumer to check a price, they must provide a price. So if your at the store and want to know the best price on that new CD your holding in your hand, just send pricedb a the price of that cd at that store and we will send back up to the 3 lowest prices that other consumers like yourself have found.

sounds like a database of the lowest prices for any item. not too sure how well it'll work out.

Looks interesting, but for it to work well you would need a lot of people using it... in your area.

No... not really. I don't think you guys/gals are understanding fully what the service is about. The whole idea behind it is that you do not need to be at a computer or connected to the internet. It is to use while you are shopping at the store and you want to see if anyone else has seen the price cheaper of a certain item at any other stores in your area. For example, you would type in the upc # in your cellphone's SMS and they would reply back to you with the 3 lowest prices it found of that item.

Hello all.
Just wanted to clear up some of the questions and comments being posted in this thread.

This is both correct and incorrect. For it to work well yes you need a lot of people using it, but no they don't have to be in your area. The current focus is toward locations found across the US, and thus pricing should be consistant across a particular chain for example BestBuy or Circuit City. There are some rare cases (Target's pricing comes to mind) where prices may vary from location to location. We also have internet locations where the pricing will be the same regardless of location. The only problem with that right now is that most internet sights do not post the UPC code of a product but rather post their own internal SKU or other identification code. This makes it harder to use internet locations but not impossible. Some internet locations do post UPC codes like MicroCenter.com. Amazon.com also posts the UPC code for a limited number of products. If anyone finds other internet sites that post the UPC codes for all products please let us know so we can make sure they are part of our location codes list.

why wouldn't you just look online with your computer???
This is a great question and I believe cpals reply did a pretty good job of answering this question but let me make sure its clear. For starters if your at the store you don't necessarily have access to the internet and or your computer. So this would require you to leave the store and return back should you find that this is the best price. Also there is nothing keeping you from using your computer to access pricedb's service. In fact you can use any device that can send and recieve emails to access the service. We have designed the system though to be used by mobile devices with limited display space and memory, but at the same time can be used by anything. The primary idea behind pricedb is to enable the consumer to access the lowest prices while at the store and not at his / her computer.

isn't www.pricedb.com a direct competition to AT's own "HOT DEALS"?
This couldn't be further from the truth. Pricedb in no way wants to compete with AT and its "HOT DEALS". Infact I am a dedicated user of HOT DEALS on AT (although I don't find as many hot deals as others on here :-(, I post them when I can) and have saved many a dollar using the forums. I actually came up with the pricedb concept while looking for deals that I found on AT. What we see pricedb as is a "Tool" for fellow deal shoppers to use to help make sure they get the best price on an item. We don't want to compete with AT at all just make AT better and deal engineering easier. Imagine the deal engineering that could happen using pricedb while at the store. You are at BB and find a 120 GB HD for $99 after MIR. Seems like a good price, in fact you can't wait to share this deal with other AT'ers, but to make sure its the best price you put the UPC and price into an email on your cell phone (or any mobile device) and send it off to look@pricedb.com. Moments later you get a reply back from pricedb telling you that Staples has the exact same 120 GB HD also for $99 after MIR. You think about it and remember you have a $15 off $100 purchase coupon code for Staples which would lower the price to $85 if you purchase there. You return home with your new HD after visiting Staples, and proceed to post the HOT DEAL you just engineered back on AT. Your fellow AT'ers praise you for the great deal and everyone is happy.

I am not trying to promote, simply trying to clear up the questions in this post.
