Ok..I will try to be brief. I have a Geforce 2 (Anhilator 2) by Creative bought about 1 year ago--when the geforce 2 first came out. At that time I remember a raging debate between the nvidia people and the Voodoo people and the Matrox people about the quality of on-screen text display. I really didn't think that the text on my Geforce was 'bad' at all--but then again, I really didn't have anything to compare it to. Previously I had a TNT card (so, still nvidia).

However, I recently got a laptop with an active matrix screen and an old S3 video card--and let me tell you I am SHOCKED. The text display of the S3 card looks NOTICEABLY MUCH better than the Geforce 2. The geforce 2 is attached to a Sony E400 Trinitron display and when I look at text in my desktop computer after using the laptop, everything looks 'blurry' and with very poor text quality.

Question: Is this normal? Is there anything I can do to improve the quality of text display of the geforce 2--resolution is 1024x768, 32 bit, running at 100 Mhz.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

I've noticed blurry text at 32 bit color where it was fine at 16. Also, you can't really compare an lcd to a crt. LCD's now are really good at text.

It's normal--especially with Trinitron monitors. Part of the problem is the video card manufacturer's (Creative) use of cheap RFI filters, and the other problem lies with the nature of Trinitron CRT's. Check out the GeForce FAQ section on 2D:

2D Image Problems

I have a Visiontek GeForce 2 GTS/Sony E400 and don't notice blurry text except at really high resolutions like 1600 x 1200 @75 Hz. I know that lowering the refresh rate of the monitor helps, so, you could try doing that.
