the next highest states -- Oklahoma and Alabama -- are tied with 3.

As of 12/22/07 11:03 am EDT, 3,897 American troops have died in the Bushwhackos' war of LIES. Maybe Texas should claim 6,794 eyes worth of flesh from their former governor, the TRAITOR IN CHIEF.

WTF does Iraq have to do with the Texas death penalty?

If they believe in an eye for an eye, one of their former governors owes someone 3,897 pairs.

NM. I'm just really pissed at that particular Texan. He reflects poorly on the whole state, along with the rest of the nation.

IIRC, the increased executions began under GWB...and continues today. The party that says abortion is evil sure likes to kill criminals...

They don't let people get away with stuff. Well, unfortunately they still do, but fewer get away with stuff. What makes me angry is how some of the people they manage to execute are questionable cases, while some no-brainers are commuted due to luck or loopholes or whatever.

Exactly. Bush is no Texan. But I still love him like one.

I am sure with all this wonderful deterrent, Texas has ridiculously low murder rates nowadays, right?

I'm not a fan of Bush, but having now lived in Houston for 3 years, the death penalty is one of the few things Texas does right. Unfortunately there's a lot of people who deserve it that won't get it, like the couple in Galveston who stuck their baby in a microwave.
