I'm surprised they still have courts in Texas.

Our courts are better than most in other states.

Here you still have the right to trial by jury for speeding tickets and other traffic infractions.

But only if you can get there without being gunned down in the back by some vigilante first.

not sure I agree with that part, but that's the law

You don't have to agree with it because it IS the law. The law was changed back in 1991 or so to allow you to use deadly force to stop someone escaping with property. It wasn't long before a guy shot a burglar that was trying to steal his car.....he shot him from his apartment window. No charges, just like there shouldn't be.

The grand jury got this one right just like Joe Horn did. He just needs to learn that you call 911 AFTER, not before.

The day this story broke all my neighbors made it a point to give me explicit permission to protect their property in front of witnesses.

well you are from texas. and even if it is the law, doesn't mean it is right. killing someone over a few thousand dollars of someone elses money while police are on the way is just stupid, and so is the guy for not staying in his damn house like the 911 operator told him to.

If you're not willing to kill/risk your life to protect your rights, you don't deserve them.

Thankfully, brutal men stand ready to do just that for you while you whine about the life and rights of those who violate the rights and lives of others.

Remember that when you have a nation of hand wringers who stay cowering in their homes, criminals and despots take over.

The police are NOT there to protect you, or your property. They are only there to clean up the mess and catch the criminal AFTER the fact. The protection of yourself and property is YOUR responsibility. Abdicating that responsibility does nothing but make you a favorable victim to criminals.

So by your logic if someone tells you to shut up, shoot em in the head because they're infringing on your right to free speech. You can protect your rights without resorting to deadly force. A violation of a right does not mean an automatic call to arms.

Telling me to shut up doesn't violate my rights.

Honestly, did you think before you wrote this reply?

Now, if the guy tries to FORCE me to shut up by causing or threatening physical harm, then yes, I have the right to use deadly force to protect myself and my rights.

Fortunately we have a right to property in this country. It is the individual's responsibility to protect that right. The police are not guards.

God, I couldn't have said it better. Leave my family and property alone and nothing will happen. Simple as that. How do you some of you not understand that?

Because we have laws? A Constitution? Right to a fair trial?

I'm all for killing scum - however, I am when properly convicted. These men would not be dead if caught by the police and arrested. End of story.

There is often a discrepancy between what is "right" and what is "legal". A solid example of this is the Boston Massacre. The majority would have hung the British soldiers right then and there. Fortunately for this country, a man like John Adams existed, who was willing to give them an unbiased, impartial, and fair trial.

Were these men guilty? Yes, is almost definite. Unfortunately this is not always the case (as in the Boston Massacre) - and it is because of this our forefathers had the incredible foresight to acknowledge it.

Except Horn didn't have permission from his neighbors. He should be rotting in jail.

Where are you getting your bullshit about not having permission. Read the interview with the homeowners. They explicity said they are glad Joe did what he did. That IS permission.
Here in Texas we still have a sense of community. We look after our neighbors. We care about the people we live next to. We are not liek your highly civilized cities where we lay down and die and give criminals more rights than victims. The only thing I'm sorry about in this case is that the guys were illegals and Joe has nothing to gain by suing their family for emotional distress.

You can't be serious. You actually believe that families should be sued because they happen to have a black sheep in the family who's a criminal? I'm sure there's someone in your family who's broken a law, maybe you should hire a lawyer.

Agreed.

Were they scum for breaking & entering and stealing someone's stuff? Obviously yes. But killing them by shooting them in the back is way over the line.

It's irrational paranoid fear. Think of it as 'pre-emptive' on a personal level.

I'm curious as to where exactly you see someone's right to property violated? Oh, you mean because some of this person's property was taken? That isn't this person losing the right to property, he's still entitled to own things - in fact, the court system is in place to catch said robbers and then the citizen can demand his goods returned. If I put my watch down and someone steals it, I haven't lost my right to property.

Some property was stolen, someone's right to property was not revoked. However, two individuals' right to life was, permanently.

Because burglary is a capital offense in Texas?

Spare the platitudes, eh? Some of us actually care about gun and property rights and don't appreciate seeing them abused.

Actually, I would fight to the death to protect the lives and rights of my fellow human beings. I put that in practice when I joined the army and protected not only my rights, but yours as well.

But I will also not allow my individual rights be violated. I will use whatever force is necessary to protect my rights.

Don't violate my rights and I will not violate yours. It's that easy. Not only that, but I will fight to protect the rights of innocent victims as well. If that requires deadly force to stop a crime while it is in commission, so be it.

Do I like taking a life? Absolutely not. It's a miserable thing that never leaves you and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. But being a victim to criminals and bullies and living on my knees rather than my feet is an even more miserable feeling.

I enjoy due process. You're right, I may never see those items again - but I'd much rather give it a shot through those channels than simply kill someone. I just don't see how violating one's right to life is no biggie, but violating one's right to property is worthy of death.

That's all well and good, but I still fail to see how burglary/theft is a reason to kill someone.

And heck, in this case it wasn't even his property the thieves were on. He got away with murder in my opinion, which is very disturbing.

This is an absolutely excellent way to put it.

The government can take away my right to property. And I have a right to defend it with my right to bear arms. This was the intention of these rights.

Someone stealing from me does not take away my right to private property. Horn, however, took away these men's right to a fair trial.

Okay... then go move to Zimbabwe. Here in America, everyone is protected under the Constitution and the rule of law, including suspected criminals.
