Get a TI-83: you can get it cheaper. A TI-84 won't give you any functional advantage over an 83+, but will cost you much more.

89's are awesome. When I got to use on my senior year, I loved it.
...but I couldn't use it on tests, etc.

Don't bother with an 86 - not worth the money when its a tie between the 89 and 83+.

(If you do get an 89, make sure it's hardware revision 2)

For that simple stuff, TI-83 plus or TI-84 plus (TI-83 but faster and with a clock), or TI-84 plus silver.

Don't grow dependent on your calculator. There are too many people in college that can't do a damn math equation without whipping out their calculator. Hell, they can't even add 3 digit numbers in their heads. Absolutely fvckin pathetic.

I wasn't allowed a calculator until well into algebra, and I never could do 3-digit math in my head. The really bad off people are the ones that can't do it on paper, because they've only had a calculator.

I'd just get a TI-89, the price different is little when compared to TI-86 and has far more capabilities. I'd suggest getting one off officedepot, add a few pennies to your cart to hit $150 and use a $30 coupon. Use fatcash for further savings. That's $120, which is very little educational money compared to how many years you can use this calculator.

Ok, I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who gave their opinion on which calculator to get. I decided to go with the TI-89 and I ordered it thru walmart.com since I had a $70 giftcard. The calculator retails for $139.92

Also im not in High School, this is for college courses. I just never did good in math so I got placed in a lower level math class.

I don't need my Ti86 anymore.. :p

A Ti83 or Ti83+ was recommended for college algebra (MAC1105) -- only one other person (that I know of) had a Ti86 in the class...and even though they look similar, they operate quite differently. It took some experimentation to figure some stuff out..

i think ti-89 should be sufficient to cover all the usage.
Unless u can afford more for a 92+, but that cost more.

on second thought... 92+ is more for engineering with formulas for partial fractions and transfer functions

I used the TI-89 in college (~5 years ago) and it was most excellent. I have still used it in my post-college life doing analytical chemistry, but that is all basic algebra anyhow.

TI 89 if you're taking Calc, but don't become dependent on it. Use it to check the work, not do the work.

Get the Titanium if you'd think you might put lots of appz/games on it.
