i am having a 10-12 person Texas Hold em game tomorrow and i have a few questions

we are using a $5 buy in.

with 12 people at the same table should we only do a little blind and a big blind, or should we do a third one?

how much would you make the blinds, how much and quickly should they escalate.

with 12 people should we start out at a table of 12 or should we do two tables of 6 to start

and what happens in the event of a mis-deal, besides yelling at the person to deal better.

thanks.

$5 buy in? WEAK...
usually we have $50 buy in, big blind $2, small blind $1 no-limit.
misdeals you muck all hands.

for college students $5 is already pricing a few of my friends out, although they are the ones that suck anyway...

$5 buy in, I find that 0.05/.10 small/large blinds work well. 12 people, I think it will be better for two tables of 6. I say the blinds esclate every 10 hands.

Mis-deal, never had that happen before. And make sure everyone pays up front, there's no such thing as credit.

Are you doing tourney format? If so, 6 and 6 is good. Otherwise, just play all 12 at one table. Do small ante plus small blind and big blind, with no limit. That way there's incentives to buy the pot.

10-12 people?? we usually run $20 buy in... depending on how the chips/people ratio, we might do all quarters with $1/.50 blinds, no limit...

altho, fivespeed's game seems a lot better than ours ;)

we used to do $20 buy-in $1/.50 blinds but most of the time people would just go all-in after 2 hands then rebuy back in so eventually it just made more sense to up it to $50.

Just make sure to have plenty of alcohol there... Eventually people will get so drunk they will show you what cards they have. Screwing over friends is fun :D

$5 buy-in is pretty sad, atleast bump it up to $10. There needs to be some risk involved with the bets in order for it to be an interesting game :) Don't use a 3rd blind, little/big are fine. When one player goes out of the game, double the blinds from 10-->20-->40 (of course, this depends on how much money the players are given).

I was mostly a backjack/Pai Gow/Run 21 dealer back in the day, but I did step in to deal a few games (not including home games). How many chips are the players getting with the tourny buy-in?

With a misdeal, all you have to do is expose the fumbled card for all players to see and leave it on the table as dead. Its a fault, and since no pit boss is there, its the best method to use.

Don't let all of these people saying $5 buy in is weak and stupid, etc. Trust me. It is enough money to make people play seriously, and if they dont play seriously they will have to buy back in again anyway. And at $5 buy-in more people are likely to buy back in after busting.

We have a game every Monday night at my apt. Usually there are 5-7 of us. $5 buy in. Blind start at 1/2 cents, no antes. Then blinds to go 2/4 , 5/10. We usually do this every hour. At the end with 10 cents being the minimum bet the pots get high enough. We aren't all loaded, and this way if we lose a lot its not the end of the world.

For 10/12 players your going to need quite a few chips. Im not sure about doing more than 10 a table. With that many people, if you have a playable hand, make a decent sized pre-flop bet otherwise you will have people hitting lots of stuff on the flop. (20-24 cards in players hands).

So... after saying all of that. You should choose how long you want to play, and if you want to do it tournament style. Tourney style you should do two-6 person tables and no re-buys.

If you want to do it just play until whenever, then you could try 12 people at a table. If you want to play for 3hrs, maybe start low and work up to bigger blinds. Also you can up blinds when someone drops. Or maybe do a forced ante.

u only do single and double blinb, but every hour of play, double the blinds, so from 1-2 to 2-4, to 4-8, this way the money is moving and people are getting kicked out, we had a tourament in here greensburg last week, thats what we did, still lasted till 11:30 and we started at 7:00, so 4.5 hrs, good luck
