Anyone here play hold em? I started playing kind of recently... I play with some friends from HS that I havent seen in a real long time. It's fun to hang out and catch up and it's a really good game.

ever since the world series of poker this year, my friends and I have been addicted to card games.

we play hold em, spades, and euchre and usually have a card night once a week. cards are a lot of fun and make a great 'chill and hang out with a few beers and friends' night

i was addicted senior year of high school. Most I lost in a night was 100. We went down south to magic mountain and I won enough in 2 hours to pay for my entire portion of the trip (season tickets, gas money, 2 days hotel fare). We caught one of our friends cheating once though, and I haven't played since.

Great game though.

I play alot. We have tourneys around town. Set buy in price, everyone gets same amount of chips and pay out the top places. Just like the WS.

My friends and I are all on Pokerstars. Moneymaker plays there. Weve been there since before he won the world series, now its even bigger. So addicting. You can play with fun money until you feel daring to play real money. I only play sit n go tourneys. Same premise as WS. 9 or 18 player buy ins and play till you are out. Won 2 of my first 3 tourneys and now cant stop playing. Took second last night. If anyone else is on there lemme know ur handle and we should play sometime.

Yeah that is exactly how my friends and I play.

They like to play every week, but I only have time to play about every other week...

Tourneys are where it is at. No limit preferably.

I play online for money at Partypoker. I also play in local tourneys here with friends, and other games I just "hear" about. I felt like Rounders the other day/night when I played 16 hours straight in a tourney, only to finish second on the river card! DOH!

Is pokerstarts good too? Multi-table tourneys, limit, nolimit?

Partypoker is the one advertised on the Travel Channel with the World Poker Tour, another addicting show.

Everyone gets screwed over on the river once in a while. I was down to about $1.50 in our tourney last Friday and had pocket hearts, then two more came up in the flop. I went all in because the other guy who was in on that hand had like $25 in chips and was pushing me around anyway, then the turn and river came up both spades!!!! So I lost to his simple pair....

Norrlands, you just need to lay off the 16 beers you preface each game with.

It hampers your clarity.

I've been interested in Hold'em ever since I saw Rounders. I started playing online a while ago for play money. I signed up at all the big sites and found Pokerstars to be the best. Nice clean interface and short table waits. I was doing really well and was going to start playing the cheap tables for real money but I got busy with other things and haven't played since.

I think I'll be spending tonight with a 6-pack  and a little hold'em action now. :D

Do you have to use a CC to play at these online sites? What about taxes and stuff?
I thought I read some time ago that they were cracking down on internet gambling??

Norrlands...depends.

If you bank allows it, you can withdraw money directly from your checking account.

My bank did not. I had to register an account with a service known as Visa Passport. There are numerous other ways to allocate money to an account though.

With passport the charge to setup the account was 5 bucks. and the minimum to open a partypoker account is 50. When I set up the account for 50 and was charged the 5, partypoker reimbursed me the 5 startup fee with VISA to have 50 bucks real money. partypoker.com has tons of info on getting set up. When I win, when I try to withdraw money it is subject to like a 48 hour audit to make sure it is legit, and the money pops into my account.

As far as taxes...if you report it as income it is taxed...technically you are supposed to yes. I believe the crackdown on Internet gambling is more with betting sites run offshore.

Even playing with fakemoney can be fun for hours.

There are tourneys where the first prize can be 50 grand....NOT KIDDING. That I imagine would be difficult to squeak by big brother. You most likely have to fill out a tax form right away. I was asking my CPA GF about it, and she mentioned a bunch of s*it about it I cared not to listen to. Win, then worry about getting taxed...it is harder than in person in my opinion to get up and stay up.

holdem, 3-5-7, low in the hole-roll your own, follow the queen, in-between.

we also play a style called guillotine. that means in a in a seven card game (like follow the queen, or 7 card stud) if you take your last card, and lose, you have to match the entire pot to the winner. nice BIG pot wins that way.

all no limit, played every weekend. its nice when you walk away with a few hundred bucks!!

I'll have to check that out when I get home. Considering I am supposed to be working instead of posting here and elsewhere, I'll have to wait to check it out.
Any good hold 'em rooms in Vegas? I'll be there next weekend.

Pokerstars is great...has all that plus omaha.

Pokerstars is affiliated with the world poker tour as well. Chris Moneymaker won the WS after qualifying from their. Dont know anyone who has qualified for the wpt yet but they have qualifiers every weekend.

You need to set up an account with a paypal type service...I use firepay. Deposit money into it and then transfer it into your pokerstars account. Getting paid is the reverse.

which is the expected result, if he had a pair after the flop he was way ahead of you even if you had a bunch of over cards.

I play at partypoker, seven card stud almost always. Havne't played for real money. I may someday. I have trouble playing for more than a half hour at a time though, I doubt I could sit through a tournament.

Very true. I've been playing for 4 years. Casually with friends when there is a time and place to play, but I consider myself fairly experienced.

Best advice I ever got for playing holdem is that the cards you have in your hand matter VERY VERY little.
