The Travis County state Judge declared a restraining order preventing law enforcement from arresting Texas Democrat House members under any order from the Governor or Lt. Governor. The Texas governor and other Republicans have threatened law enforcement actions against the house members if they were to not return. This Saturday another failed special session took place, as there were not enough quorum members for any business to commence in the house. On Monday, the present house members successfully voted for a "call of the House".

That didn't last long. Texas Supreme Court issues an order blocking that order.

Now all they need to do is get other jurisdictions to comply with extradition requests before the Sept 5 statutory limit on special sessions. Probably not.

It was my understanding that they're not actually at risk of arrest in the colloquially sense, but rather essentially taken into custody and forced to the chambers to continue with the legislative process. Or at least this is what I understood from a few interviews with lawyers from David Abrams.

I support the dems efforts but isn't TX a red state in the first place? Despite the voter suppression laws and tricks and gimmicks from this republican legislation, couldn't it be assumed that TX will remain red regardless? This is like treading water in Niagara Falls, you're going over them falls eventually. Even if the dems efforts paid off and they won the issue, TX will remain a red state with the people electing republicans and not democrats.

And suddenly, I see vacations in Paris in the summer... (Since France tends to ignore US extradition requests)

I think even other states will. I know they came to Oklahoma once to avoid arrest in 2000 I think.

I hope they do, but it costs a lot of money to collectively leave your home state for extended time. And the governor will continue to call special sessions until the bill passes. Do you light tens of millions of dollars on fire just to delay the ultimate surrender?

It won't change the outcome, but a truly remarkable (heroic?) 15-hour filibuster by a state Senator:

I have a better idea. Why not just let the bill pass, and the Democrats campaign like crazy. And if they win more house seats in Texas, make the claim that the new voting bill was good thing, and the proof they claim is their victory due to the non-existent voting fraud done by the Republicans as seen in 2020.

Filibustering IS the rules lol.

Feel free to fuck with the rules again, last ones to do such were Democrats and it only ended up costing them.

So, do you support the Texas GOP efforts about "enhanced election security" or not? Is there any reason for it other than to reduce participation?

How do you suppose they will win in an election where the odds are stacked against them? That's the entire point of voter suppression

I had difficulty just parsing his word salad, and it makes no sense whatsoever. Let them cheat as is their playbook, try to defeat them against difficult odds, then claim the cheating wasn't so bad after all? o_O

"The way to fix unfair elections and districting is by winning against the massively tilted odds, then you can fix it." Except as shown at the federal level, even when you do win again the insanely long odds, the Senate rules still prevent progress from occurring.

The word better, it doesn't mean what you think it means.

No, you didn't. You had an "idea" that made absolutely no logical sense at all.

Don't mind him, some days he seems to forget his meds and he'll go off the rails a bit more than usual (and make no sense at all, like here).

That's why God made GoFundMe.

They'll have all the money they need, once the right people know.
