The whole thing is because of the jerrymandering going on right now. Here in Austin, the liberal heart of Texas, the our district is slated to be split into five, effectively nullifying the liberal vote for central Texas. On of the "new" districts being proposed for the Austin area will stretch almost to Houston (4 hours away). Lloyd Doggett, our representative, got 80% of the vote last election, which is a rare feat for any Democrat in Texas. The jerrymandering going on is meant to put an end to "democratic strongholds" left in Texas.

Since the drawings of the lines are required to be public, the Rs made a posting a full one hour before the meeting, at midnight. It was intended to be done under cover of darkness, like a snake hiding in the grass. The Democrats are forcing people to be on notice of what is going on.

And this is why we have a politics and news forum. I believe this was posted there yesterday.

On the subject though, this is what happens when the majority tries to bully the minority.

..they run away? That doesn't seem to be the most professional response..but maybe that's just me.

There is a provision in the Texas govt to allow for this sort of thing, its a step up from filibustering. The idea is to protect the minority from the majority.

Just out of curiosity I wonder how many of the upset democrats supported this same type of district drawing in states like Maryland where they control the process? They did this same thing in Maryland before the last election and not a peep was heard. Once again it all depends on whose ox is gored as to who the offended parties are.

I support fair and reasonable districting that reflects the area's population. I did not support the crazy drawing here that followed the highways from Charlotte to Durham to create more black Democrat areas.

TX Dems have been bullying the Reps for years. Now they are tasting a dose of their own medicine.

hahaha, and for the last 130 years in which the dems held the house and usually the governorship did you ever once hear about the Rs running away? No. The dems are just acting like little spoiled sports - like the kid who picks up his marbles and goes home when noone will play by his rules and his rules alone.

Thank you for your intelligent comment. Why do I see a lot of ex-Cali people in TX?

It's a cause and effect thing... the ex-Kalifornia people come here to dumb things down.

houston is not 4 hours away. it's less than 2.5. though that really doesn't change much :D
