Whats ironic is that the state spends so much effort the last 72 hours to keep you alive so they can kill you.

From the article:

No other prisoner has killed himself so close to his scheduled execution time. In 1999, a death row inmate took an overdose of prescription drugs. He was hospitalized [and revived], then executed two days later.

LIVINGSTON, Texas - A convicted killer facing lethal injection beat the executioner to it Thursday, committing suicide by slitting his throat and arm with a blade in his Texas death row cell 15 hours before he was supposed to die.

Michael Dewayne Johnson, 29, was found in a pool of blood by officers making routine checks on him every 15 minutes, authorities said. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The Rock is dead? :Q

Seems a lot more tragic then ironic. 24 dollars of gas resulted in the death of two human beings.

Yup. This is why I don't agree with the death penalty, it is very rare that we are 100% certain of guilt.

This should highlight why the death penalty doesn't make sense. Death is not a punishment, or else no one would commit suicide as an ESCAPE.

Uh, hello? He commited suicide to avoid being executed. He didnt commit suicide to avoid dying, also that makes no sense since you die anyway when you commit suicide. He probably did it so that his family or whoever wouldnt get to watch him be killed.

That has nothing to do with my point. Death is not a punishment. The person may suffer knowing he's going to die, but then the death is painless, and he ceases to exist. Being dead means you don't suffer for your crimes.
