Testing the B memory slots on X58

What MB is this? Your EVGA? UD7?

I've had issues with Sabertooth and P6X58D-E boards in the B slots. Had a P6T that ran all slots fine - just a terrible board for overclocking.

For safety's sake, I use 3x8GB in the A slots. 24GB is enough for everyone. Until it isn't.

@Burpo would know for sure, but fear he may have traded in his X58 FOREVER Bumper Stickers and Xeons for cheap 14nm party tricks.

It's on the UD7. Can't remember the last time I tried using the B slots. I bought it used a while ago and it's been decent. I ended up just sticking to the A slots.

I guess I probably could. I have a 3x2Gb kit of Elpida Hypers.. currently at 1600 6.6.6.18. 1T I also have another 2x2 kit same ICs I originally was trying to fully populate a dual channel config but it kept failing.

Interesting. With only 6GB, understand the desire to be fully slotted.

Not sure about the UD7, but don't think you can mix triple channel with dual channel secondary slots. Asus boards I have only support a single pair of dual channel.

If you wanted to spend $40-50, could get 3x4GB modules. $80-100 would get 3x8GB. Since it's X58, it's an investment in the future, not just the past. ;-)

I would just get 3 higher density DIMMs. DDR3 is pretty cheap. That said filling all the slots should still work, as long as the board is fine, though also depends on your CPU and your RAM and Uncore settings.

I ran 3x2GB in b slots and 3x4 in the first slots for 18gb on a asrock no problems.
When I gave the 58 away I kept the 3x4 sticks I miss that pc.
