Testing speaker channels?

Anyone know a good, easily obtainable (public domain) sound file that I can burn to a CD-r to test the speakers in my car? Everything sounds great but I THINK that the installer swapped the channels on my amp by mistake.. I've tested it with music and I'm 75% sure that the left and right are swapped but would like a more scientific test.. I had this great CD that litterally says "LEFT CHANNEL" on the left speaker and "RIGHT CHANNEL" on the right speaker - a 5 second long mp3 file of that would be great (lost my cd ages ago)

Burn Lenny Kravitz's "Fly Away" song to CD and play that. It starts out almost exclusively in the left channel.

Good suggestion though I'm trying to stay away from music.. Thinking ahead, I want to be able to fix the problem myself and a short (5 sec) loop of sample/tone would really help me set the system (I'd loop it while I tinker with the speaker cables in my trunk)...

If the channels are switched, then fixing it takes 10 seconds and a screwdriver. No reason to loop the sound while you're doing it. But then, I tend to take a shortest-path approach to things like this.

BTW, if you really wanted to do a loop sound then get some freeware MP3 editing utility and just burn 10 seconds of the song to CD. Start with the bit that's just in the left channel, end with it being in both channels.

You have very valid points but I'm really hoping for a simple tone or speach sample instead of something as dynamic as music..

I know my SoundBlaster software has an option that plays "LEFT CHANNEL" and "RIGHT CHANNEL". Let me try to find it.

Doesn't your head unit have an L/R fader?

Hmmm....if you have any DVDs with the THX stamp of approval, you could use the THX Optomizer that's on the DVD.

My fader doesn't work correctly since the preamps are split with a Y cable (so that I could use a 4 channel amp and a mono amp even though I only have 2 preamp outs)..
