Testing mobo and psu compatibility

I plan to get an Antec P150 case and a Abit AN8 SLI board. I don't have anything else yet -- no cpu, no video card. My question is, if I plug the mobo to the psu, can I at least tell if the psu is compatible with the mobo (I hear the antec P150 psu has problems with certain boards). If the board lights up/beeps/whatever can I take it as a sign that the combo will be ok?

(1st time builder, obviously)

It won't do much (if anything) without a CPU and RAM. It *might* beep at you, but even that's iffy. If the board has a power LED, that may light up if you plug in the PSU and turn it on.

Honestly, any ATX PSU should work with any ATX motherboard. I have yet to see a 'compatibility issue' like that not be caused eventually by a bad PSU or motherboard, or installation trouble (like shorting the MB against the case).
