I can't speak for all the sp packs but usually reports of win2k has shown it is the OS where you are more likely to run into some issues of applcations having a negative effect with HT enabled.....

It may be questionable if the app he is running is even able to take advantage of the HT....I asked him to check his task manger and see if he is running 50% or 100% in the cpu utilization....Either then running as accord said in 2 instances or......he is wanting to speed it up so he can do other things or do another file??? He may want to test it to see how much it slows down if he runs another file or application and try to take advantage of the HT through multitasking...

I have a correction, there only 14 million records in the input file. Not sure it matters, it's still too many!:) It takes up about 8GB of disk space, and it's a regular flat file. When it runs, it creates over 65GB of temp disk files.:/

That would seem a bit at odds with your comment about the process being CPU bound and the disk drives not causing the bottleneck.

I don't suppose you could install XP and let us know the difference. :D

Duvie,

Did you get your Dual Xeon system yet ? Also have you ever tried to encode w/ 2 progs at the same time ?
ie. rip & encode w/ Dvdripe on 1 dvd drive & Recode w/ nero & burn to a dvd-r drive at the same time

Regards,
Jose

Have not got the duallies left as I got work busy again but I am slowly starting to piece some of the parts together....

I have tested something similar to that in terms of simultaneous apps except I was not burning the dvd-r at same time as the ripping.....I have done tons of burning, encoding, and few other things like watching a movie of the HDD....I have ran tmpgenc doing a divx title to a mpeg2 while I was dvdshrinking a movie with compression off of my Liteon 163 drive.....

Everything flowed well with no problems but can't say that I ever tried this on the barton or my non HT p4b.....

Basically I just haven't been shut down in trying to multitask apps and the system has stayed very responsive in all my multitasking capabilities...
