Testing firewire cables

I just attached a firewire device (the first) to my computer that doesn't work. It could be several things, but I want to check the firewire cable.

However, I can't find any reference at all on the internet on how a cable should be wired. Just the wiring of the port or cable end.

What I'm talking about is when I look at the end of a firewire cable that points down, like a "U", the upper-right pin is #1, upper left pin #2, middle right is #3, middle left is #4, lower right is #5, and lower left is #6.

When I test the cable with a DMM, I get continuity between #1 on both ends, #2 on both ends, and the shield. (Outside). What I did not expect is that #3 on one end connects to #5 of the other, and vice versa. This happens between #4 and #6 on the left side as well.

My guess is that it's normal, it's just one TX side going to the RX side on the other. But, I can't be sure because I found no proof.

Does this sound normal to you? Thanks.
