Testing compaq motherboard with 3 connector psu

Have an old compaq presario 2262 here, with a blown power supply. The psu costs a ridiculous amount from compaq, before I pay that I'd like to test the motherboard, though it won't fire up without the additional (compaq specific I think) 6 pin connector from psu to mb. ie, instead of 2x6 pin connectors from psu to mb, it has 3 of them. Any help would be most appreciated...

Looking at the three power supplies on the hp site, it looks like it is some variation of an AT power supply. Or it at least uses that style of plug in to the motherboard. In that product line, that is probably a proprietary set up, and trying any other power supply may be asking for trouble. They may have used special voltages, so trying something else may burn something out.
