testing book covers . . .

posted one on here a couple of months back. we're getting close to pub and wanted to test at least one other design. they're at www.longevitycode.net click on the main image on the index page and the two covers are on a page linked.

if its not too much to ask, could you let us know your age/sex with any suggestions. many thanks.
 
anyway u could link them for us? many of us ATOTers are lazy

and when i click on the picture on the site u gave it just takes me to a bigger picture of the same cover. Dont know where the second one is

i dont know what the hell its about either but were trying to focus on the cover(s) just cant find the other one yet.
 
Your synopsis is not good and needs a *lot* of work. I couldn't find the second cover. On the one shown, I would not reccomend having a person as the primary image of the cover. Maybe a drawn back view of the island or something like that.
 
the title on the front needs to be different from the author's name. you want the title to really pop up, maybe make it bold and increase the font size or change the author's name to a smaller font.

the text on the back looks a little weird on top of the illustration (the gray chromosone thing)

don't forget to add a bleed (check with your publisher)

maybe make the text underneath the author's picture white to differentiate it from the rest of the info text on the back

maybe add a thin border around the back

I think I have already gave my $0.02 on the original cover in some other thread, but for the new one with the girl:

Front:
1. The girl looks like you just googled for a picture and just cut her out and pasted it on there. Find a better picture to use (do not use google!, go get some quality pictures that yeah you will probably have to pay for).

2. Do something with the background. Like I said a pixelated girl pasted on top of a blue background is not interesting at all.

3. Play with the text, it seems way too boring and amateurish. Instead of just doing a drop shadow and throwing it on top of the picture, try to incorporate at least some sort of design work into it. Shrink the authors name as well.

4. For the inside flap, your prices are screwed up.

Back:

1. Either do something with that picture or get rid of it. Again, it looks like the result of a google image search and you just pasted it on there. Hell, the pic would be fine if you found some way to work it in so that it doesn't look like you just threw it on there.

If you are actually getting this published and expect to make money off of it you have a lot of work to do, no offense. Have you thought about forking over some cash and having someone make this for you?

wasn't this part of the plot for countless zombie movies/resident evil? I wonder if the price could be cancer... 🙂
 
Given the choice of just these two, I'd say the cover without the girl is much better. The girl picture looks like something you've cut out of an old magazine.

But neither represents what I imagine your book is about. Put some DNA twisty in there. Remember, a lot of people buy books by how cool the cover looks / title sounds.
