Testing an ATX 2.03 Power Supply?

Anyone know of a link that diagrams the steps necessary to test a new power supply without hooking it up to a new motherboard (that hasn't come in yet).

TIA

I belive sticking a paper click or something bridging the black and green wires allows you to turn it on with out being attached to the mobo

It doesn't matter which black wire, they are all ground, but only touch the green and black together for a moment, thats what the Power On switch does. Having said this, the PS may still have 'issues', without a 'load' on the supply it may switch off or produce incorrect voltages. I'd just wait for the rest of your system to arrive. If you do a google search, you can find a fairly cheap power supply tester IIRC.

that's what i was afraid of 🙂 ok, i'll wait and see...

my reason for asking was that i bought an aspire 500, the one with the clear case and colored parts, I took off the molexs' so that i could put uv sleeves on it, but since putting it all back together i have a bad feeling i might have not put the blacks in the same order as they were before (on the molexs') I made sure the red and yellow were in the correct places, but does it matter if the middle 2 blacks (i'm assuming grounds) get switched from one molex to another? i.e. from position 2 & 3 on one molex and then 3 & 2 on the next molex...

i'm assuming they go to the same ground so it shouldn't matter, but i wanted to test the ps on a bunch of fans for example before i plugged in any expensive components and watched smoke come out... 🙂
