Testing a sshd for faults

So I've gotten a new sshd drive I need to test before using. Any advice for program or method to use? Figured I'd start with seagate tools. The mailman seemed like he just tossed the packages onto the porch.

On top of that, it was just packed in a padded envelope and semi well wrapped in form/packing plastic inside that. Drive seems intact with no obvious external damage but no way am I not testing this before using it anywhere.

Did you order it from Newegg? That's exactly how they have sent several SSDs and NVMe drives to me. They arrive with the retail boxes absolutely crushed.

Outside of that, I would use the Seagate tools to check it, and you can also scan it for errors within Windows. The only other utility I would use to check it would be CrystalDiskInfo:

If you run those three things and don't see any red flags, you should be good to go.

I tend to do a long SMART scan, followed by thrashing the HD for hours, since they tend to fail early, or late.

For hybrid HDs, ugh. I don't think I would do the same kind of test, since the NAND on those are so small, I rather not use 30% of the life of it just for testing out the mechanical parts.

No, it was Amazon which has normally been good about shipping drives suspended in boxes. And yeah, not sure about the effect on the nand when using long tests, smartmon/gsmartcontrol or badblocks in linux.
