Testing a PSU

To those of you without elaborate equipment, do you usually test a newly-purchased PSU?
If so, how? Is there a software program that will run tests/diagnostics?
Thanks!

Short of a digital multimeter, there is no way for the layman to test it. Software certainly is no way to test a PSU.

You can use a multimeter to test it at different loads by playing games or using benchmarking software.

Unless you have an automatic load tester and an oscilloscope and the knowledge of how to use them, there is no testing beyond the multimeter and just hooking it up and seeing if it works.
