Testing a Dell 8100 without battery

I inherited this machine from a friend of my Mom's. The battery is MIA, new one is $85.

I never fool with laptops & don't know if I can jumper the terminals in the battery compartment to check out the operation. I'm not sure if it should run at all without the battery installed. Thanks.

Yes it will run without the battery installed if you have the AC adapter plugged in and supplying power.
