You got a link to some of these players? I was gonna replace my HTPC with a progressive scan DVD player but if these are coming sooner I may wait on it.

Is the sound supposed to work? ( i downloaded the Terminator 2 1080p)

Ok, i have a 1600+XP & 7200 Ati vid card 384mb of ram. My computer was stuttering like a 350mhz K6 @ Divx!!! REDICULOUS!!! I think i'm gonna go overclock it temporarily to from 1.4 to 1.67mhz, see what happens.

HAHAHAHAH - Check this out:

I played the file in my Real ONE player (Version 2.0 BUILD: 6.0.11.853). Much smoother playback than in WM9!!! Someone test and confirm this!

You dont NEED WMP9! All you need is WM encorder 9 and it works with WMP8.

BTW, I enjoyed that slide show! :D

coral reef 1080p ran like a champ on my machine here at work

p4 2.8 (533) on e7205 mobo, 512 ddr, Seagate scsi 10k, Fire GL 8800

these clips are awesome quality...I thought 1080i looked great on my Sony 32" tv, but 1080p is incredible

long live older versions of software with less crappy features that eat up cpu and ram

ie: wmp2, icq99a, winamp 2.x, ie 5.0

you're right. wmp6 doesn't even play this. wmp 8 plays it but VERY choppy. realONE player plays the video much smoother but it's still choppy.

you may be experiencing a windows xp bug (nothing to do w/ wmp9). try disabling menu transition effects or left click on the file before right clicking

I downloaded and played a vid cap from HDnet a few months ago, was 720P and it kicked the butt of my Athlon XP 1800 system.

This is something to think about though. Maybe people should hold off upgrading till processors come out that can handle 1080P easily. I was gonna get a Barton 2500 or a P4 2.6, but maybe I'll wait awhile till I'm sure it can handle 1080P. For future HD-DVD decoding (though the discs will probably be 720P or 1080i) and also just for future usability. Who knows whats coming down the pipe.

OMG!!! The 1080p almost killed my 2.13ghz P4. It was at 99% the hole time and was choppy as h3ll

I was beginning to think something must be wrong with everyone's system...

I ran this on my wife's system. 2100XP, 1GB DDR, R9700 Pro, etc. Stutter city with the 1080P reef clip. Unbelievable. Big mistake. Now she wants a dual Xeon like mine! :Q

Wow, is this how intense HDTV decoding is? What about HDTV receivers, they can't be running 3ghz+ are they?

BTW, it looks AWESOME on my GDM-FW900.... but it rocked my system.

hm i think hdtv in reality uses mpeg 2 at a higher bitrate. less ugly pixel artifacts probably...the ms stuff seems pretty compressed.

I tried to access the main page with WMP8 (WM9 codecs installed) and all I got was this:

This content requires the new
Windows Media Player 9 Series...

Wouldn't even let me see it in mozilla.

edit: N/M some rapid fire clicking of the stop button in IE did it.
