Buy a box of incense that pleases you. Light 5 of them and have at it.
Warn you family or SO first as they may think you have been smoking reefer. 😀
Cover the left side of the case with clear plastic (if you don't have a window case).
Plastic food wrap could work but I find it hard to manage.
Light the inside of the case if you can, as it will high-light the smoke. A couple small flash lights would do.

1...No one said you had to do it in the house.
2...No one said to buy the most heavily sented incense, lightly sented is an option.
3...I doubt if the smell would linger in the case very long. Two days at the most...Maybe.
It would be the dust and dirt inside the case that would hold the smell. Might be time to
give your rig a though cleaning if that's the case (pun intended).
4...If you have the buck$. Rent a smoke machine like those used during some stage productions.
5...Google is your friend 😉

There is an idea! Crush up 5# of dry ice, put it in a bucket of hot water, instant CO2 gas,
then just duct it to the intake.
I believe the smoke machines use dry ice. Might Google it or go to How Stuff Works later.

Here is a question, how do you do a smoke test with a case that has no case window? I assume that taking the side off would cause issues with flow but would that be enough to negate the test? Just curious as I might try this....
Actually the cheaper ones you get for personal use (smaller party models) use some sort of liquid solution you can buy. I have no idea what is in it or if the larger models use dry ice but the one we have is defintly liquid fed.

I used Saran-Wrap once and it was a pita to get it right&tight. Three Stooges Smoke Test
a PC case, did you see that one, no, well I lived it 😛
A small piece of plexi would be cheaper and easyer. Just tape it to the case, after the left side
cover is off of course 😉 Most would not have the slightest interest in smoke testing a case for air circulation.
Note: I was being sarcastic about a smoke machine.

Lol, thats what I get for only reading every other post and considering it good. I am having some noise issues with mine so I am trying to get the absolute best air cooling with the lowest possible noise so a smoke test might help me find the place that is goofing me up.

Buy a flair, you know the type that lets out the HUGE smoke signal. Then the smoke is coloured and easy to see. Just make sure you don't pick a colour that signals a holy war or something... that could be nasty...

You can buy Canned Smoke. Saw it used on TechTV once, pretty cool stuff.
Edit: This is cheaper and may not leave any "gunck"
Edit#2: Aww, what the heck. I'm going to try out that smoke from the Ebay seller. Need to check out my case setup anyway.
