Test PSU Outside of Computer

Radeon962

Senior member
Is there a way to test a PSU before installing it in the computer? I have read about shorting out some pins, but sounds like it may not be advised.

Could I just plug the PSU and hook up something like a case fan to it and flip the switch? It should start up if there is something on the end or does it need something with a larger power draw? The fan is a Scythe S-Flex 1200 rpm model (if that makes a difference).

I just tried that and the fan does not come on and the PSU fan does not start either.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Bill

Never mind...

Actually just tried the paper clip method... green wire to black ground, flip the switch and its on.

Thanks, Bill
