The close ups were taken with the Raynox DCR-250 Super Macro Filter. The water pictures were just the normal lens. I tried to do some closeup pen shots like fuzzybabybunny, but couldn't get too close without going out of focus.

It's the first time I've owned a camera so I've been just playing with all of the settings... a little overwhelming right now.

Any thoughts, comments, etc? I know all of the pictures are crappy, but I was just wanted to show them. :)

S3 is a pretty overwhelming camera if you've had no camera experience beyond "auto" mode and don't know what all of it means.

Yeah, I can't figure out when the proper time to change the aperature/shutter speed is and what the proper setting is, etc. All very confusing.

I got it for $350 from Amazon (cheapest I found), but now it's up to $175 for some reason.

The pictures look like crap because I don't know how to take pictures with correct lighting yet.

LOL, my fiance gave that to me on my birthday last year... I'm always bumping it into things and such. Shouldn't wear it for day-to-day activities.

But yeah, I acknowledge I'm a noob with photography, but hoping to learn to do some cool stuff with it and make it into a hobby. Get outside more and off the computer. ;)

Do you use the automatic setting the most? If not, what do you use for indoor/outdoor photos?

Try using the flash for macros. This harsh lighting creates high contrast, high detailed images. Crank up the aperture to the highest F stop number.. I think F/8, this will increase the depth of focus and make things a lot sharper and detailed. Use the lowest ISO setting to maximize image quality and minimize noise.
Just a few quick pointers :)

Thanks for the tips... I need them. :p So start using the custom mode on the camera? Scary! Does the shutter speed matter for something like a still shot?

Thanks, luckily my sink was clean at the time. Although, I probably could have removed the soap dispenser.

Learn how to shoot in at least Av mode (learn how to set ISO and aperture) and then go outside and shoot some real things! Have fun with your camera.

Today's pictures were all shot in manual mode. Changing the aperature number and shutter speed.
