Have you priced insurance for a S65, have you priced repairs? Matainance and repair costs will run you 3-4k per year, insurance, halfway decent coverage will run 6k a year, and this is only for the S600, not even S65AMG. Just because the entry price is low does not mean you can afford it, it's a common misconception of many luxury cars.

Here go buy yourself a formerly $170k, 3 year old 600+hp car and don't pay attention to the actual costs of keeping something like that on the road, legally.

Mercedes are not dead reliable. I have a 2006 E500 4Matic, it's been in the shop 3 times in the 1 year I've had it. Scheduled maintenance is not cheap. Insurance is not cheap, and it is nothing even close to the S65.

as for the other poster, of course, the S65 AMG depreciates 80K in the first year, it won't cost as much, but it still takes S class money to pump into a car like that. You cannot cross-shop based on price. A $40k S65 is not comparable to a $40k 335i or a $40K C55 even.

FUD? I's called not being stupid.

What was your problem with your E500 4matic? I have an 06 E350 4Matic and so far the only non maint item is the SRS sensor fault and that was fixed under warranty. Insurance is not bad at all. Hell, it was about the same as the 02 Protege5 I had...

COMAND Head unit had to be reprogrammed and fixed - under warranty
SRS Airbag light - sensor replaced under warranty
DVD Navigation Drive read error - replaced under warranty.

It's a nice car, a fun car, very comfortable car, but it is not a reliable car, especially with all those electronics (my E500 was almost fully loaded, minus the hand less cellphone system), something will go bad sooner or later.

Insurance on the E500 isn't bad, I pay ~1500 a year for decent coverage, which should put the S600's numbers in perspective. I was using it as an example, E500 is ~$500 more than a normal car, a S600 is ~ as much as a new Porsche 911 Carerra 4S Cabriolet, the S65 would probably cost even more.

I do, Not sure how we got to talking about s600s and S65s 🙂

I like to push boundaries 🙂 I was looking at the S65 in places like Cleveland figuring they would be cheaper and they are. Trying to get my buddy to get the S65

C55 was a bit small for my taste. That is why I got the E350 4Matic for the wife. The land boat fits me better. Frigging easy to speed in it though.

C55 is small, and I am coming from a truck. I had plenty of room in the driver seat though. With my seat adjusted to my comfort, no one could really sit behind me though...at least not an adult. Not to be an asshole though, I really don't care about being able to drive 4 comfortably.

I guess insurance is a lot cheaper in the states for the non luxury cars.

Different people have different preferences, that is why they have different models.
