What can I say about it? It is sex on wheels!

A very smooth and luxurious grand touring car. You could drive this car all day and not get tired in it and you'd look like a million dollars while doing it. Such a beautiful car.

Handling, braking, comfort, and 382hp doesn't hurt either! I took it on the freeway and got on it a couple times and this car just lusts forward when you press the gas pedal. No fuss, just off you go and you're doing 90mph in the blink of an eye.

Not the exact car I drove:

Update: My Mother-In-Law ended up buying a 2010 E350 this past weekend. Very nice car too I might add. She bought a white one with beige interior with the premium 1 package for $47,499. They gave her $7,500 for her 2002 E320 on trade in.

Yeah its the quintessential German Autobahn rocket, my father wants one of those eventually.

One of my loaded friends just got one as a present for getting into a Tier 3 law school *rolls eyes*

I normally don't care what other people drive, but she has a 2006 911 Targa S right now and "shes bored of it"

But what is the mpg? :p

The CLS uses the same 5.5 as the E class. That was the first year for it. It gets good fuel economy, typically 20+ mpg on the highway. E classes that I've had will top 25 mpg at steady cruise.

The great thing, (and btw good choice OP) about used german cars are that the depreciation makes them the absolute best bargains in the used car market. A 2007 CLS550 in fairly good condition is about the same price as a new Toyota Avalon. And the Mercedes is a vastly superior car.

If the OP doesn't mind the body style, I'd go with a slightly older S-class. Imagine picking up a 5-6 year old $100,000 car for less than the price of a Toyota Camry.

I dunno, if I have 40k saved up over a few years, do I want an already-6 year old car? Bargains are nice, but the thing is nearly half-dead and you saved up many paychecks to get it.

The car I drove is 3 years old and has 32,000 miles on it. This car cost $74,000 new, I can get this one for almost half that.

I'm jealous...haven't gotten to drive one of these yet. I'm sure it cruises like a dream.

That Mercedes is excellent, always gets my attention on the road. Especially Black Ones.
You get the smooth contour of a coupe and you get four doors and loads of power to boot.

I don't think anyone with the money for it can go wrong BUT if I were in your mother in law's shoes and I had a thing for Mercedes Benz, I would be a little more patient and I would get the 2010 E-Class, it's pure sex on wheels.

Not digging the base model. needs to have the AMG goodies.

Also I don't like that the black stick figure in your avatar is a slave.

I must admit...this model was growing on me today at the dealership.

Not my decision to make but now she's talking about the E again and possibly a BMW...ugh, woman, make up your mind!!!

I'm not a fan of the CLS styling...I've never been in it.

I was in a friends S class and it was nice to be sat in it, never drove it. Drove a mates E class, it was nice but bloaty and soft. I like a much firmer ride and to know that I'm driving it and not floating on it. But most people aren't like that and want more creature comforts and not such a stiff ride.

Tell her to get an M5 :D

How does this compare to your S4?

I've never really been a fan of 4 door saloons/ coupes that were soft. My M3 feels soft but I'm too cheap to get new coil overs...

Never liked the CLS styling.. or the new E-Class for that matter. Last MB I drove was a C300 AWD that felt.. wrong. Way too floaty.

I was just driving the company ML350 yesterday and thinking about how floaty the car was. Irritating actually.

You can change the dynamics by upsizing the rim. I am riding on 18" on our E350 and it's a different car than when it's riding factory 16"

One thing that annoys me about the new E is the gear selector is now the same as the R-Class one and I am not a fan.

Tell her to hold out for the next gen BMW 5 series.

I would agree with this statement...I would at least want to test drive it.

Jules...I know your opinion on Audi's...but you should at least give a test drive to the A6 with the new 3.0T (actually supercharged). It is the same engine in the S4, just slightly less HP.

Agreed! Surprised to see several in this thread really don't like the styling.

A well turned out "woman of a certain age" pulled up next to me in one last year. After complimenting her on her car, I begged her to adopt me.

Alas, she merely laughed and drove away.

I'm not super enamored with the styling either, it's ok just doesn't give me any warm feelings.

New E class is tits though, just looks like an angry german car.

Saw some nice CLS550's over the weekend, they're actually priced pretty reasonably on the used market.

Wow, I didn't realize you could get an E-class for that price. That's about how much I paid for my 330i.
