Well I went and borrowed an Impreza WRX yesterday. I am simply amazed. I will own this car. This one was the wagon <eww> I am going to talk about ordering the sedan tonight.

Cool, The WRX is a nice little machine... I'm not too hip on the looks though... but for the power/torque and AWD at that price, it's hard to complain. It's nice to think of a fugly car like that which can bitch-smack most entry level "sports cars".

My chipped Audi could probably keep up with you reasonably well on a typical road coarse (but not the track I'm sure), but heck it cost a lot more.

I plan on getting one in the next year or so as well. That is, unless Mitsu releases plans to bring over the Lancer Evo VIII (or whatever they're up to) that'll whoop up on the WRX. Been meaning to go down a test drive one just to make sure I fit, but I'm afraid that I'd end up driving home in one if I did.

Is this the Turbo that you're talking about or the current 2.5 N/A?

WRX is only made with Turbo. I have heard rumors that the 2.5RS has a higher compression and will put more HP to the wheels with just the addition of an aftermarket turbo. But who wants to go to all that trouble? And you still dont get the momo steering wheel :)

WTF - where do you live? These are in north america now...?

EDIT: Georgia...oh my, get one and take some pics plz.

Regarding its looks its fuuuugly, but who cares. I'm driving an '00 imprezza sport wagon now. Slow as hell but its an automatic. These new WRX's are beautiful machines and with that AWD your launches at the lights would be hella-fast.

Hehe, I've been looking at the WRX's for about 2 months now. I'm just waiting for the local dealer to give me a call telling me that they are on the lot. I'll take it out for a spin, but I won't be able to buy for at least another year. Just want to take it out to see if it's what I want :)

Turbo's are fun as hell to drive - so I can't blame you for wanting one. Let us know what you end up getting.

Thats an idea, in fact if they hit the lots when i buy a car in 1-2 months (if I get a job), I'll pull up in my mother's imprezza and then at least the dealer will let me in it. Course the biatch will have to come along for the drive. GRRRR

They are on the lots here, our dealer has 2 that are already sold, has one coming in next week that I have first dibs on, but it is the wrong color, I am going to order one 6-8weeks to come in.

If I do end up getting one a little while down the road, it will most certainly be a wagon. I'm not sure which color to go with. The blue is a little to obnoxious. The silver looked sharp in pictures, but need to see it as well as the black and red in person to make a decision.

You see a lot of those new WRX's around here a lot now, it looked like as soon as the new ones came out, everyone went out and bought one. Actually had a chance to race one and gave me quite a scare, this guy launched and i thought it was over, meanest launch i'd seen in a long time, his tires squacked at the line and i was like "uh-oh" im dead, but by 3rd gear he was two cars behind me, they are some mean muthas, id consider buying one if i had $$.

What are the specs on those?

Skoorb, I've seen some numbers where they put some better rubber on the wheels and gave it a hard launch and managed to get some 5.7 and 5.9 launches.

Yeah that WRX sounds like it'll be one sweet machine for the price (even if the styling is a bit too "rally" looking for my tastes). Hopefully the Mitsu EVO and Nissan Skyline will finally be brought over as a response to Subaru.
