Why even go through all that hassle? Out of the 12 "test drive offers" I have taken advantage of I have never had to actually get behind the wheel. I just tell them in a polite, matter of frankly way that I am not going to buy a car, and don't want to waste their time and possibly wreck their car. They smile, thank me for my honesty, sign the form and I'm outta there in less than 5 minutes flat.

We are not so lucky in my region. That does not always work for me and if I drive up in my boyfriends car it never works for me. Just some kind of combination that just doesn't work and I hate car salesman pressure.

You should consider moving to Portland, Oregon sometime then. It's against to law to pump your own gas, there's no sales tax but can you put up with 9 months of non-stop rain?

It's no biggie if I really ever had to test drive a car it's just a waste of time for me and the car dealer, I just find that being sincere and honest usually works.

Rossman is right. I've done over 7 of the auto "test" drives, and sent my sister on 3, and never had any hassle with "Sales Pressure" or anything else. At one dealership, salesmen were sitting at a table when I came in and one of them saw the papers I had and just reached out and took them from me and started filling them out. When he was almost done, he looked up at me and said "You don't want a test drive, you just want the watch, right?" I said yes, and told him I would come back if I ever did want to buy a car.

Bandita, I have to tell you, you are really weird and I don't appreciate you remark about "a guy thing". All "guys" don't go around wasting salespeoples time "test driving" cars they have no intention of buying, so it's clear why you feel "sales pressure" for being a liar and telling these poor people you are interested in buying when you are not. Just try telling the truth for a change and you'll find that they won't continue to have hope once you're honest with them and will just fill out the papers and send you on your way, regardless of what kind of car you drive up in.

Btw, perhaps her boyfriend is a car afficionado and owns many cars and enjoys test driving them. Who are you to judge what you know nothing of?
