That's the sum of the maximum power output of the two motors; however the P85D had a sum of 691 HP but never pulled more than 415 KW of energy from the battery, or around 556 HP.

The new motors require the 90kwhr battery pack and they can pull 1500 amps, the previous P85D could only pull 1300 amps.

He has a point though - electric cars are still big and heavy due to the battery packs.

If Tesla could make a miata fighter though? Holy hell that would be something.

Give something max torque at 0rpm and AWD and of course it will launch like a bat out of hell.

The S is impressive, but it is still a luxury car that goes stupidly fast (same vein as an Audi S8, BMW 750, S55 AMG, etc). They are not sports cars.

They say that they're working on a new roadster.

I'm curious about what the future holds for their EV competition. Like, the upcoming Bolt is really the only competitor, and even then to the unreleased Tesla Model 3 due to the 200-mile range. Plus, the current Ludicrous model is an actual usable daily driver car. There are faster cars out there, like the Zombie 222, but with a 50-mile range, it's not really as practical as a Tesla with a 300-mile range. And there are crazy fast ones like the 2000+ HP Red Victor 3 that can do zero to 60 in a second, so it will be interesting to see how far Tesla pushes it while also keeping it as a commuter car, instead of a specialized monster. Note that the Red Victor 3 gets 5 miles to the gallon :D
Hey, there is always something faster out there right ;) When I said competition, I meant mass produced electric cars like the Leaf, eGolf, Focus electric, etc. There aren't a whole lot of electric only cars right now.

Yeah - I'm holding out for the Tesla Model 3, but the Bolt looks like it will be a pretty good competitor too. The Volt II looks amazing as well, especially since the EV range fits my daily commute perfectly, and doesn't have the range limitation that pure EV's do thanks to the gas engine.

Right now I can't justify an EV. I have the sensible (cheap) hatchback and the z06. If I did anything, it would be replacing the hatchback with something like a volt. I need range and quick fill up on a 4 seater for longer trips with more than 1 passenger. I've never had any luck convincing people to sit in laps in the vette...
