Got a chuckle out of this block of replies from Jalopnik:

Jalops said:
That was a shocker, what an electrifying race

With a reVOLTing aftermath…..

Pretty magnetic in its appeal.

That was no race, that was assault and battery.

Ohm my god, I was hoping people could resist this kind of joke. Hopefully someone got a charge out of it.
Capacitor.

Watt did you say? I couldn't hear you over my naturally aspirated 2.3l radio.

If Hellcat Brah hadn't flubbed the start it would have gone better. Traction>Ponies

Embarassing with all those people watching. When you start spinning the tires in a 700 HP RWD car it's best not to MAT the gas and expect it to hook up.

Tesla commercial, literally like every other Tesla drag race video out there. I honestly think they pay people to make these idiotic videos, where the outcomes are opposite of the clocked runs of the two cars in question. Hellcat is about half a second faster to the quarter than the Tesla.

The Hellcats (both Challenger and Charger) need significantly larger tires on the rear.

Well, I think the advantage the Tesla has is not requiring much driver skill to put out a good 1/4 mile run. Green light = smash the pedal into the floor and hold the steering wheel straight. The same cannot be said about a Hellcat.

I wonder how long before we see a tubbed Hellcat on proper slicks. That would be amazing.

The hellcat jumped the start so he didn't bother with the rest of the run and just did a burnout.

They should nickname the P85D the "Electrobat", both as homage to the 1894 vehicle and because that thing takes off like a bat out of hell.

This +1 - It doesn't take much skill in a Tesla to get a good 1/4 mile run. Obviously in a Hellcat it is a different story.

Hellcat has launch control, mash the pedal and go.

Ferzerp's law of car threads: if it has "vs." in the thread subject, it will be retarded.

Another non-racecar driver thinking that they can do better than the built in launch control. If he hit it, he'd have won it.

1/5 of a second in Tesla D.

Same driver would barely won in the Hellcat, assuming the driver could handle hellcat's power.

This race is like if someone was trying to say I am faster than Usain Bolt, when the race had a mis-start and he stopped and I just kept running. Silly...

Ah, the butthurt is good in this thread. It reminds me of the good old days of Honda-Tech when people would post race stories and that they "could have got them in the twistiez", except now some cars are too easy to drag. A drag race is not about who has the easiest car to drive, it's about who has the quickest car.

You torque junkies should really open your eyes to the superiority of electric motors.

No butthurt, first thing is the Tesla is an AWD design so that's a huge advantage, then the person driving the Hellcat is clearly a moron who has no idea as to running a 1/4 mi race. Keep in mind as well the Hellcat is probably a LOT less expensive then the Tesla.

Yup, base model P85D will be 105K. http://insideevs.com/base-tesla-model-s-p85d-gets-price-slashed-14500/

Base model Challenger hellcat is 60K. http://www.drivesrt.com/2015/challenger-srt-hellcat/

Also, Tesla has not said whether their times are from production equipment. Dodge makes it clear their 10.8 1/4 mile is with street legal drags, but also certify that with a purely stock car (production tires), they hit 11.2@125MPH (vs 10.8@126MPH). That right there is nothing short of amazing.

I am visiting San Francisco for work and this morning an old friend picked me up in the P85D he just bought for his wife, also a dear friend. Of course we immediately started talking about the car. He put it in Insane mode (a selectable drive mode) and we did a quick run of 0-45 or so. Holy cow! I have never experienced such savage, relentless acceleration. Really completely nuts that this is a daily driver, but it's actually a comfortable, practical car - just a costly one that accelerates like it was shot out of a cannon.
