terrorists may use lasers to blind landing pilots

I have my doubts about this. First off, the odds of even hitting a pilot while the aircraft is moving several hundred miles an hour are pretty low. Second, you'd need a pretty powerful laser to do real damage at the distances between an aircraft and the ground.

When I first started working with big lasers back in the 60's for laser light shows, this was the big worry. Ho-hum. I think they just dug this up to worry folks with.

Didn't you hear? Today's video games are just virtual combat training for next USAF generations. What better way to raise the ultimate soldier.

Reminds me of a Tom Clancy novel, actually. I just don't remember which one...but it was part of the original Jack Ryan trilogy.

Oh, that's right - it was in the skirmish against Japan - John and Ding use a tightly-focused light beam to knock the pilots of transport aircraft into unconciousness.

I was JUST thinking that.

By terrorists?

I think I saw one under your bed.

Depends on *your* definition of a terrorist I guess. If your definition requires them to wear a turban and attend camps in afghanistan, then who knows.

But if your definition means anyone who tries to cause mass panic by putting many lives in danger at once, then sure, it could be a terrorist.

That wasn't my meaning with the post, however. I linked that article in response to the posters who doubted it's possibility of happening.

CNN report something to worry people? Never!!!

I'd love to see the dr's report of the pilot allegedly hurt by the laser... Is he just milking the system? Or seriously injured?
