Terrorism is good for business

Since the days of the fall of communism in Europe, many have suggested that that would lead to the end of history. Most worried were the security appartus. However, whether by grand design (dialectic history) or an accidental opportunity, we once again have an enemy to call our own. Now, I'm not sure if bin Laden has any masters, but his actions in the name of religious purity have brought about a windfall of opportunity for all but the dumbest security businessmen via intelligent manipulation. He has breathed new life into our military and it's contractors. He's also given the government a fresh vision. Furthermore, by terrorizing many, bin Laden has brought out the most primal of forces within man (on both sides), albeit one that can be controlled.

So, who are the winners and losers? Americans win because the revitalization of the military means that she and her contractors won't be going out of business. That means, even though we already have a vibrant service-oriented economy, we'll have more people going to work. The corporations win because the war is one of containment, not one of annihaltion. Hence, people don't need to get only the basic necessities. The government wins because it is needed. Furthermore, it gets to grow.

Who are the losers? Taxpayers, because someone has to foot the bill for all those aircrafts. American and Europeans will also lose many rights as anti-terrorism laws infringe upon those with the mind to question the gov't. However, the biggest losers are the arabs themselves. As mentioned earlier, whether by grand design or accident, they are caught in the middle between two powerful opposing forces. In every game between the rich, it is the poor who always lose. The arabs are the poor lot. So long as terror is propogated by Islamic terrorists, the arab world will pay a heavy price in the form of an ever-tightening grip of the Eagle's claws. There will be a lower tolerance of leaders coming from that region. As for the oil, it will have to be secured. Oil is too important a commodity (energy) to be left alone.

It's highly doubtful that any President of the United States of America or Europe can change course since there is so much at stake and there are too many complications. Hell, why would they even want to?

I've been thinking that perhaps we really did reach the end of history, at least for the first world. Let's face it, there aren't any great calamities, there is no great suffering and there are no grand events or movements either. There is no Industrial revolution, or reformation, or WWII or anything. Most events can easily be ignored by poeple, and yes, that includes the iraq war, 9/11, etc.

Or it could be just me, I just don't see anything interesting happening around.
