"Terror in the Loft" or "Toddler loose in the Office"

My wife and I stepped out to return a Car DVD player that had some pieces missing and left our 22 month old son with her 15 year old brother. We were under the assumption that he could watch our son without a problem....well, mostly my wife was. Frankly, this is a kid that drops the newspapers right in front of the door that leads from the house to the garage when you ask him to go throw the papers out....right in front of me as if there was nothing wrong with it. So, I wasn't to thrilled with the idea.

Well, after we got home I was justified in my less-than-thrilledness. My son managed to dump a box of pancake mix on the kitchen floor then somehow got upstairs, put cat food in the water bowl, put water in the cat food bowl, scattered wet cat food all over the carpet, turned my PC off, and dumped paper out of my printer cart. All to the complete ignorance of the little bro-in-law. I don't get the kid. He's an honor roll student and taking all AP classes but doesn't have a lick of common sense or responsibility.

Everything is cleaned up but there is now a brown stain on the carpet where the cat food ended up. Time to break out the steam cleaner.

Now I need to find a gate that can cover the 65" opening from the hallway to my office loft.

This is my brother-in-law not my son-in-law...and he doesn't live with us. He just stays with us on weekends and weekdays sometimes because his mom owns a restaurant.

It doesn't have anything to do with respect for him. It has to do with common sense, thinking things through, and responsibility. Like I said, he's an honor student but you have to give him detailed step-by-step instructions for doing something as simple as saying "Clean the Kitchen." You tell him to 'take care of the dishes' and he'll empty the dishwasher but won't think about putting the dirty dishes sitting in the sink right there in front of him in the dishwasher.

lol, sounds like he's a lazy bum. If he doesnt live with you, this is easy. Get some chick his age to do the babysitting and then dont let him in the house. That'll teach him

Honor Roll + AP kids tend to be like that. Senseless fact regurgitation machines with no clue how to do anything but homework.

😀 I like.

Your brother in law is a typical, modern day kid. LAZY. :disgust: They are all like that these days. They've all grown up in the "there are no real consequences for my actions or INACTIONS" atmosphere, unfortunately.

When I was 15, my dad would flat out punch me in the stomach, kidneys, chest and occasionally my face if I didn't do what I was told right off the bat. You learn fast. Real fast. That's what this kid needs; an ass-beating. A REAL ass beating. Not just having his Playstion 2 taken away for a day.

I dunno....I really don't know what to think of the kid sometimes. We have completely different backgrounds.

I'm white, have always had both parents involved in what I do, have always been interested in sports, being active, reading, and writing, have always been interested in building, tinkering, and exploring, have always been in good/decent shape, grew up with GOOD music.

This kid is black, only has his mother who works all day and night so she can provide for him but barely has time for him, doesn't even like to ride a bike, has no interest in trying to figure out how stuff works, overweight, will watch TV and movies all day, listens to cRap and Hip Hop.

The only thing we have in common is his sister and the fact that we like some of the same movies and TV shows. Other than that, I think he needs to go get tested to make sure his brain is functioning fully. I try not to get too involved because I've already had it out with his mother a couple of times over what is and what is not the right things for him to do. But, he just needs to be popped up side the head until all the M&Ms in his head settle down in the right position.

Oh for God's sake man, quit listening to Maddox.😛 He's only irresponsible, it's not a time for physical force.

Thanks for the blinding insight. Actually you are right I suppose, for the most part. Just a kneejerk reaction from being both an AP/Honor roll guy in high school and an engineer in college. No one thinks you can do anything besides homework. So it's always fun to prove people wrong 🙂

On the other hand, it's morons like that kid who make the other 5% of us look bad 😀

LOL! I had to think about that for a minute. I love his site! 😀 But I was actually being serious. :/

After reading Queasy's additional info...man, that's a....different...situation! However, the basics still apply here. The kid is obviously a bright light. He needs some Responsibility Training...somehow.

Man, my father would of kicked my ass if I did that. I KNEW better to clean up after myself, or I would of had my ass kicked in.

Exactly. How do you think he's gonna act when he leaves the house and goes to college? He may be very smart but he's not gonna have one lick of common sense. This is a responsibility issue too...you would do better for him in the long run to teach him a lesson.

same here.

A good friend of mine is really smart. well long as its school work or computers. But he lacks any common-sense at all. It always amazed me at some of the things he did.
