They seem to raise and lower the "terror alert" levels based on nothing at all. They raise it to some stupid color coded level like "orange" then lower it back down again, meanwhile there have been no terrorist attacks. Do you think there's any value at all to this system?

No. *yawn*

EDIT- Though, I live in Utah and a terrorist would have to be pretty bored to make the effort to blow something up here.

Where I live in texas they don't mean much to me. If I lived in New York I'm sure they would mean something to me.

Already a topic on terror alert levels....Batman Nate mentioned the M & M's so I'll tell you what I told him:

We are always at yellow or orange, does it really matter b/c there is always a chance of us being attacked and I don't think anyone knows how or when. Besides, does anyone actually change their daily routine based on the terror alert color? I sure don't

Yes, I believe there is value to this system. I like to know if stuff will be happening or not.

To be honest with ya, I have no freaking clue what those codes mean!!!! For all I know yellow is the highest one, and I should be locking myself in the basement with plastic over the windows, or maybe it's periwinkle... Who knows? They mean absolutely nothing to me.

I live just outside of NYC and I knew a few people who were in/near the Twin Towers, so yeah I pay a bit of attention.

Yes, my summer GPA will go up. I'll get good grades in the classes I'm not taking, as it's summer.

I guess that's why this forum is called Off Topic, because that had NOTHING to do with the original post.

Yes, they mean something to me...but only because it means more people come into work in uniform.

It's just a way to sell the emerging police state to the masses, and to take attention away from the gutting of enviromental protections.

"It's Orange -- so we NEED to drill in ANWAR! War on Terror! So we need to let the military dump toxic waste! WMD in Syria! So we need to hold more US citizens without charges! Orange!!! "

Is that a black helicopter outside my window?

What's a terror alert level? :) Sorry, couldn't resist.

Where I live (deep south), if any terrorists came around they'd probably get lynched! Of course, the bad side to this is I live in the Deep South. Anyone know of any job oppurtunities for SySadmins in NC?

LOL....the terror alerts mean nothing to me but that's only because I fall into that group of "when your number's up, it's up, nothing you can do about it".

Ahh yes, everything revolves around the environment, eh? Card carrying member of Greenpeace or do you just buy into all their propoganda?

Neither, though I do recycle my newspapers :)

You must not have been paying attention when this adminstartion pushed for development of ANWR for "national security," even though (a) it would be many years before we'd get any oil out of it (b) pushing fuel efficiency and energy conservation would reduce our foreign dependency immediately.

And no, I'm not a liberal, I'm just annoyed when my elected officials lie to me and put short-term gain ahead of (greater) long-term benefits.

I don't care and I am in NYC. They are always wrong when they hear "increased chatter" from terrorist groups. I am not scared of alert levels or terrorism in general. I am not going to live my life in fear because some cavedweller thinks he can get a free pass to paradise by killing me.

f'you osama, f'you terror alert system, f'you all.

I think I paid attention once. Then I realized I'm probably f*cked no matter what, and I stopped caring.

I won't pay attention to the terror alert level until they raise it and something actually happens.

Looking at your profile shows me that you're not from Alaska, so why don't you quiet down and let the Alaskans run their own state? How would you like it if every other state in the country was making decisions about what could and couldn't happen in Washington? I've lived in Alaska my whole life, and it really pisses me off that everyone in the country thinks they should be able to run our state, but that nobody else should interfere with what their state is doing. Stop being hypocrits
