NORTH TEXAS MOSQUE VANDALIZED

(IRVING, September 12) -- At least six bullets shattered windows of a North Texas Mosque early Wednesday, causing about $3,000 in damage, officials said. Windows at the Islamic Center of Irving were found shot out when workers arrived at the mosque about 6 a.m. Wednesday. Nobody was at the mosque when the shooting occurred and no injuries were reported. About 800 people attend services at the center, project manager Raouf Alkawldeh said. Irving police were investigating the incident. It was not immediately clear if the shooting was related to Tuesday's terrorist attacks along the East Coast. "It's very sad. We're just trying as any Americans, any Muslim-American, to comprehend what happened and why it happened ... we called on our community for a blood drive, we set a fund for donations and we made a special prayer last night ... and to come in the morning and find out a place of worship like this trashed," Alkawldeh said, his voice trembling. "We have children, we have family ... we have to shut down our school operation for two days now so I hope the law enforcement agency come also to our help as Muslims, as citizens of this country," he said.

This is wrong... Everyone should join together to fight such terrible, pointless violence...

Bush did address this issue in one of his earlier speeches. He said something along the lines that we should not blame communities for the acts of individuals. I took that as meaning don't blame all Muslims for this act of terror, but I could be wrong.

Despite the catastrophe that already happened someone had to go and ADD to it? I understand about being upset. I AM EXTREMELY USET. But I don't think that smashing windows and vandalizing a mosque really addresses the problem or provides satisfaction for retribution. The truth is that while Islamic terrorists (not militants - militants don't blow up buildings) are also muslims they are but a fraction of the muslim community at large and should not be exemplary of every muslim. Not every muslim is bad just as not all Texans are rednecks. However I can userstand someone's anger especialy when seeing the celebrations occuring in the West Bank and in other parts of the Middle East.

This is absurd and ignorant behavior, but it has exactly nothing to do with gun control, or the lack thereof. It has to do with Americans' frustration at our inability to identify the true villains in this attack. Since we do not know who to blame, and we are, for the most part, ignorant of Islam (I know I am), it is expedient to blame everyone that looks vaguely like Osama bin Laden. This is just sad, and I hope the perpetrators are dealt with sternly (though not nearly as sternly as the scum who attacked us yesterday and those who harbored them).

Here in the Bay Area, there was one incident where someone left a message on some Muslim center's answering machine saying there was a "gift for Osama bin Laden" outside the door. What was on the sidewalk outside was apparently a lot of dried blood.

Also, they played some of the threats people have been phoning in. Things are getting ugly.

IMHO, the fanatic terrorist groups in the middle east are distorted perversions of true Islamic faith. I'm sure this has been said before. The thing that strikes me is that the God the Muslims, Christians, and Jews all believe in, are the same God.

As for ignorant white trash redneck scum, coming from the midwest, I'm all too familiar with that, however its not isolated to podunk towns in the middle of nowhere. Listen to the Howard Stern show and people off the streets of New York City were making some pointed derogatory statements towards people of middle eastern descent. Really quite disgusting.

I would think that the Muslims living here are living here because the US is a better place to be than wherever they were living before. Picking on them is the wrong thing to do (duh). Then again, the US's solution in WWII was to throw Japanese-Americans into "internment" (concentration) camps. Hrmph.
