terrible game performance after motherboard upgrade

I just got a Gigabyte EP45-UD3P to upgrade from my Asrock 4coredual-vsta that only had x4 PCI-Express and my frame rates dropped significantly. My video card is a Sapphire 4830 I got the end of last year to upgrade from an AGP 6800. I never got a FPS boost from that at the time, but I believed the x4 PCI-Express was holding it back.

I'm still running a Pentium D 805, which is going to bottleneck my video card, but I am not sure to the extent of losing performance. I have the latest bios, F9, latest drivers for the chipset and video card and even tried a fresh XP install. Checking with CPU-Z and GPU-Z my PCI-Express is running at x16 2.0. I eventually want to get an e8400/e8500, but don't have the cash atm and sure that is truly my problem.

edit: to add, GPU-Z shows my gpu load at 10% max while running wow and 3dmark.

Thx for any insight anyone might have.

Weird, that's the exact motherboard/GPU combo I have now 😕 It's performing up to expectations in my case. Let me ask a silly question: you've got the video card's auxiliary power hooked up, right? 😱

solved my problem. cpu was overheating and the motherboard was cutting me back to 1.8 ghz, 133x14 due to TM2.
