Terrible Framerates with PhysX

The latest drivers which supported the AGEIA PPU was the 8.0904 that were released back in last september, the latest one says that the 8.09 must be installed first to be able to install the latest update which will simply update the runtime and not the drivers, seems that's the end of the AGEIA PPU driver support.

I still can't believe that PhysX drops my framerates. I thought it was supposed to integrate smoothly into games, not be a hindrance.

it is integrated into the game, so you get these PhysX effects. to get the same effect without PhysX would be impossibly slow.

for god sake, we should have some kind of petition to force AMD to include PhysX...its almost like AMD is forcing us to use/buy obsolete hardware (AgEIA PPU)...

hmm...somehow when i had PPU paired up with my 4870 it seemed that after i installed 3dmark vantage, warmonger and quake worked without problem...i didnt have to go and install the nvidia drivers

nVidia's relationship with developers is just better, the AGEIA PPU isn't obsolete, is faster than a 9600GT card, what it will make it obsolete is to drop support from nVidia to promote their nVidia cards. It would be a nice idea if nVidia takes some of their GPU's like the 9600GT and put in as an add in card and use them as dedicated PPU, so it won't conflict with ATi's drivers, unless if Windows 7 can have both nVidia and ATi cards together.

PhysX can be turned off in Mirrors Edge. There is an option in the games control panel.
