Three people were killed and 22 were injured after a car plowed into a crowd watching the Oklahoma State University homecoming parade on Saturday.

Police said that Adacia Chambers, 25, who was not part of the official parade, was arrested for driving under the influence after she drove into a crowd in Stillwater, Oklahoma, around 10.30am.

According to witnesses the vehicle was driving at speeds of up to 50mph, ran into a parked police motorcycle and left the spectators running for cover as some were thrown '30 feet into the air like rag dolls'.

Paramedics and helicopters rushed to the scene and officials have said that three people have died as a result of the injuries they suffered.

Captain Kyle Gibbs told reporters that eight were critically injured and flown from the scene by air ambulance.

Seven others were seriously injured and seven had less serious injuries.


“Oklahoma State University is saddened by the tragic parade incident earlier this morning. Our thoughts & prayers are with those affected.” the school tweeted according to NewsOn6

Witnesses at the scene were shocked by the incident as it occurred.

'At first we thought it was part of the show,' Konda Walker, a 1991 OSU alumna, told the Stillwater News Press. 'People were flying 30 feet into the air like rag dolls.'

Investigators gathered at the scene afterwards as stunned witnesses tried to come to grips with what had happened

The parade takes place each year before the school's homecoming game, and features student associations and members of Greek life as well as marching bands.

The route takes the groups up along Stillwater's Main Street until it intersects with Hall of Fame Avenue, which leads to the OSU stadium.

The black sedan came south on Main Street and hit the end of the parade route, according to officials.

Gibbs said that there was probable cause for arresting Chambers, who is not believed to be an OSU student, for driving while intoxicated. .

Oklahoma State President Vaden Burns Hargis said that the university had thought about not playing their homecoming game against Kansas, but has decided to go on with the game and 'remember' those who had died in the incident.

Based on the pics and description of events, it sounds like they were only using a parked police motorcycle to block the street off. That was a bad idea on someones part, they should have had a minimum of 2 cop cars with lights on at every blocked street to keep traffic out.

I've driven intoxicated (2-3 drinks) in my stupid college years. I've never once contemplated driving to the point where I can't tell what the fuck a police bike is and plowing through it and then through a FUCKING PARADE in broad day-light hours.

People suck at things like risk analysis, and basic goddamn respect for other people's safety and welfare, or even a basic understanding of physics and the amount of momentum that's present in a >1 ton vehicle at speed, piloted by someone with compromised judgement and reflexes.
You could increase the sentence for DUI to death and people would still do it.



Lucky you also didn't kill anyone driving intoxicated back when you did it.

I assure you, that I wouldn't drive unless I was coherent enough to see everything ahead of me well ahead of time.

There are a good number of people who drink that get... angry and belligerent the more they drink. My roommate in college was a good example of that. After drinking if you even questioned if he had the ability to drive he would start to get pissed like "How dare you question if I can drive?". I'm ridiculously friendly and would toss the keys if anyone ever asked me.

It's pretty well defined by law enforcement that the human body processes approximately 1 mixed drink / 1 glass of wine / 1 beer every hour. So if... let's say you drink 2 beers over the course of 2 hours. Would you still not drive?

Go to an AA meeting. You'll hear a lot of stories like this. Self-deception is part of the problem. If you're honest with yourself, you'll realize that with 2 mixed drinks over a couple of hours, you're still slightly impaired. You're not as attentive. Your reactions are slower, etc.

The reason most people can get away with deceiving themselves is that 99% of the time, you can be essentially brain dead and still operate a car. It's the 1% that you need all of your faculties for.

There is no "good at it", if your bombed your bombed, stay the fuck off the road. When I was young and tended to get drunk on occasion I would just curl up in the back seat and sleep until I was OK to drive. If you look at some of her selfie pics she posted, she looks totally plastered in most of them. She may have been on some psyche medications plus drinking, too. So 1 or 2 beers to her, is like 5 or 6 beers to someone not taking an alphabet soup of psyche meds.

and that is supposed to persuade me in my opinion on the subject? Not a chance. I don't believe in the BAC bullshit. If you drink, you need to stay the fuck off the highway until 100% of the alcohol is out of your system.

IMO, if you drink and drive, there should me mandatory prison time on the first offense. Don't even get me going on the second offense.
