I can't seem to get a decent Benchmark on 3DMark2001SE. :frown: I just got a Gainward GF4 Ti4200 Golden Sample with 3.3ns 64mb ram. It overclocks like a champ, and gets up to 300/600 with very little hiccups, but even at this speed, I can't seem to get a decent score. 8250ish is all that I seem to be able to conjure up. Here is the details of my setup:

does anyone see anything wrong? It's a Dell Dimension 4400 with 1.7Ghz P4, with 768MB PC2100 DDR. Am I getting crappy scores due to my processor?

Hell I get a crappy 3DMark score as well with my "super dirtbag" rig (about 7200)... but in UT2003 the standard antalus flyby give me a nice 81 FPS @ 1024*768 with 4x aniso. which makes me care less about the 3D Mark score.

I have a radeon 9500 pro OCed to 324/297 When I first install 3dmark 01 I get about 12250 marks after not using the program for a few weeks it is down to like 8500 something seems weird to me..... But in 3d mark 03 the card gets 3996 seems pretty weird in my games it still works great though there is no diterieration in anything other than 3d01 it tends to go away with either a reinstall of 3dmark01 or a reinstall of the drivers. I mean a real reinstall like uninstall drivers then use a driver cleaner in safermode and all that It makes it work fine. Not sure why I never really cared cause it is only 3dmark my games work PERFECTLY still so try reintalling it and/or your drivers. does the trick for me

I got 780 running last time, but it says it's not default mode. This is my rig:
Motherboard: Asus P3B-F 440BX (100 MHz FSB, 2X AGP)
CPU: Intel 850 MHz Cu-Mine Processor
Memory: 192 MB PC100
Video: ATI Rage Fury 32 MB 2X AGP w/ TV out
Sound: Sound Blaster Live mp3 with toslink adapter (it?s a card to connect to the board that allows a plug in for a digital adapter so I can run it to my receiver through the optical input)
Hard Drive: 3 X 23 GB Seagate Elite UW SCSI 5400 RPM
4 GB Western Digital drive (stores an alternate boot path if I have a problem with accessing my other drives)
DVD Drive: Pioneer 10/40X DVD 305 SCSI
CDRW: Yamaha CRW2100S 16X/10X/40X
SCSI Adapter: AHA2940UW Pro Ultra Wide
Ethernet: 10/100
Modem: USR 56k PCI
Monitor: S-Video input of my 32? television
OS: Win2k Pro
Logitech Wireless Keyboard/Mouse
PSU: Enermax EG365P-VE FCA

I would say your processor at least has a part in your bad score. But as long as you get good performance in games, a benchmark is completely useless.

No, 3DMark2001 is NOT useless. It is by far the best test to see how your system stacks up. Now, 3DMark2003 is another story.

so it's because my processor is so slow that I'm getting such crappy scores? My Vid Card overclocks like crazy. It's runnig VERY stable at 305/585. I want to crack into the 5 digit barrier. Is this not possible? I've read others with the same card getting much better scores, without nearly overclocking as far. Is my 1.7Ghz P4 not going to cut it? Does the PC2100 DDR not allow for such speeds, even when I have 768MB's of it? I would love some feedback. I wish I could overclock my processor. Damn Intel MoBo! :(

Your cpu seems to be a 1.7GHz P4 Williamette. I would say you're definately cpu limited and that looks like a decent score to expect.

You should be processor limited, but not that much. I would expect about 11k with your system, and just make sure aa, af, and anything else affecting it is turned off.

I ha ve the same cpu buts a worse video card. I think its the cpu. Is that a 1.7A or just 1.7ghz cpu? The 1.7a is a northwood core and the 1.7 is the williamette core. If you have the williamette core, theres your bottleneck. Another thing, your memory is at 2100 or 266mhz and therfore it can online provide 266mhz of the 400mhz FSB speeds available. If you remember how much a jump from the 400mhzFSB to the 533mhz FSB did, you can tell why running a P4 at a low FSB can hurt. Basically, without a fast FSB, a P4 is useless. You have to keep the pipelines filled in order to achieve optimum performance.

In simple terms, its the cpu, hehe

that sucks...because this Vid card overclocks like a crackho on steroids. It pretty much runs anything under 315/615 without any artifacts for hours. Then I guess the heat builds up and I start to see some blips here and there. It can run 285/585 all day though.

that was my first thought, my rig (see sig) gets over 9000 3dmarks and i have a radeon 8500le
i run the system oc'ed tho, i forget what my 3dmarks were at 1.4ghz (stock cpu speed) ut they were definitely lower, that and my fsb/ram is running at 344 mhz

too bad you cant get a nice hs/f and overclock the cpu or somethin
hmm

tell ya what, trade me cards, see how it goes ;)
