Wow, what a great written article -- "somewhat limited in the draft by the prevalent view that he is best suited as a 3-4 nose tackle, when many NFL teams play a 4-3." What a farce, 3-4 NT are coveted. KC had a guy that had been out of football for six years playing NT this year because they couldn't find anyone else to play it iirc. A 3-4 NT is highly coveted.
Not quite true. I don't even know if that guy ended up playing. They used Ron Edwards most of the time, but he's not really suited for the role.
It is true that a 3-4 nose tackle is fairly coveted, it is also somewhat overrated in that most teams seem to have success using a couple or even a few players versus just one for that position. Most guys that big just can't hold up for an entire game.
Keep in mind that both Richard Seymour and Vince Wilfork could be free agents as well.
We'll see what Cody weighs at the combine, but he has a lot of knocks against him. He just doesn't have the motor, isn't fast off the ball, can't last an entire series in college, and does not demand a double team despite his size. If he's that way in college, I don't see him being very good in the pros unless he really busts his ass (the fact that he did lose a bunch of weight for this season will definitely help him). He has a lot to prove, and is a big gamble. He'll definitely have to show up in better shape and with a better attitude than Andre Smith did last year (which Cody's been likened to him, only worse).
