Terms of buying a car on Ebay

I know there's a few of you who have bought cars on Ebay cause I've seen several posts. I'm looking to do the same thing, but my question is how did you handle the transaction? The car I am buying is pretty far away so I am going to have it shipped. The person I'm buying it from would of course like to have all the money up front, but what kind of guarrantee do I have that I will get the vehicle? I guess anything purchased on Ebay works this way but, when it comes to something as expensive as a car I would think that makes things a little different. Was just looking to see how other people have gone about it.
 
only thing i could suggest is to actually see the car and test it before buying. my friends brother sold a car for only 4 grand be he insisted the person come and test the car before paying.
 
How far away? What kinda car? How much $$$ you saving buyin over the net, enough to spend $50 to Greyhound their or a lil more to fly in and check it out then drive home? I looked on Ebay for a car once but would've went and checked it out first while I had time off work.
