Terminal Services...

I doubt this is possible, but I'm curious. With Windows2000 terminal services, is it possible for the client to put a CD in his/her own CD-Rom and install off of that, over the network to the server?

OK then, lets make this more interesting... I'm doing this over the internet, and am behind a firewall 😉 (linksys dsl router)

To install software on TS or Citrix you need to be in "Install Mode" which disables logins (IIRC) , otherwise most of the registry changes will be local to your profile instead of global, among other things I can't remember cause I'm not the Citrix Admin at work =) The software may work, but it's very bad practice to install like that.

I've done it before to a client on the other side of town (35miles) for a stupid little app update (5 minutes). U need to set citrix/terminal server to see client drives and then just set it to install mode and install it. Its not the best method if you'll need to reboot cause if the thing doesn't come back up your gonna have to hop in your car and get there fast, but for little things I think its pretty convenient (just make sure you have a decent sized pipe on both ends if its alot of data).
